Seither
Head Cross Country/Track Coach
Al Seither enters his third season as head cross country and track coach here at Loyola. Seither brings a wealth of experience to Loyola.
In 2004, Seither led both the men and women to the GCAC Championship. Two men and two women qualified for the NAIA Nationals.
In his first year, Seither led the Wolfpack women to the GCAC and NAIA Region XIII Championships. He had two male runners qualify for the NAIA National Tournament and was named GCAC and NAIA Coach of the Year as well as being honored by the United States Track and Field Association for his accomplishments in 2003.
Seither was named the Louisiana Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association in 2003.
Seither was the head coach at Holy Cross High School for more than 30 years, where he started one of the first cross-country teams in the area in 1971. Seither coached numerous state champions and many runners who went on to compete at the NCAA Division I level.
Prior to his stint with the Tigers, Seither was an assistant track coach at SLU. He was also a four-year letter winner as a quarter and a half miler for the Lions.
Seither was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Louisiana Track Coaches’ Association in 2003 and was instrumental in the growth of the sport at the high school level in New Orleans.
Seither is a certified member of the USA Track and Field Coaches Association.
“My goal for this season is to form two strong teams, which will be admired and respected by the university community and our opponents.
We are going to train in a way that will enable the runners to respectfully compete at a high level, while motivating our athletes to be the best they can be,” said Coach Seither.
Seither has been married to his wife Erin for 40 years. The couple has one son, Steven, and three grandchildren.
