Mission Statement
The Wolfpack cross country program and track distance program are open to all dedicated runners who want to excel on the college level. The major emphasis will be on cross-country, middle distance and distance running. All runners are required to participate in both the University’s cross country and track team.
The major objective of the program is to provide a year round training program that will improve the runner’s ability to compete well on the collegiate level.
Some specific objectives are:
- To improve all mental and physical components which will improve running times
- To place well in meets
- To reach individual goals and establish new personal best performances
- To set new school records
- To win conference and regional championships
- To qualify for the NAIA national championships and to place well
Loyola University New Orleans teams compete at the Division I level of the NAIA and are a member of the GCAC. Loyola cross-country and track runners participate in a number of local and regional meets, competing against some of the best teams in the nation including members of the SEC, CUSA, and WAC.
Official practices are held during cross country, indoor, and track season. Team members are expected to train year round. Men should run approximately 50 to 60 miles per week, while women should run 35 to 45 miles per week.
Student-athletes shall exhibit a serious commitment to the academic mission of their university and their academic responsibilities and to accept responsibility for all required class work.
