(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans track and field team had 11 student athletes named to the SSAC All-Academic team.
Harley Augustine, Jacquelyn Gross, Annie Hills, Denise Powell, Sarah Tortorich, Francesca Vaccaro, Jessica Williams, Michael Corso, Paul Freese, Henry Gerbracht, and William Maye all earned the distinction of making the SSAC All-Academic team.
Augustine is a sophomore biology major from New Orleans, Lousiana. This season, she also earned SSAC All-Conference recognition as a member of the 4x100 relay team. She also ran in the 200m dash and 400m hurdles. She Also set personal bests in the high jump, shot put, javelin, and long jump.
Gross is a sophomore from Madisonville, Louisiana. She is studying finance and accounting at Loyola. This year, she concentrated on the javelin throw, setting a personal best of 82-10 at the University of South Alabama Invitational.
Hills, a junior from Swisher, Iowa, is studying business at Loyola. This season, she set the school record in the 1500m race with a time of 4:59.75. Hills was named SSAC runner of the week after her performance at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational.
Powell, a sophomore from Pearl, Mississippi, also broke two school records. The biology/pre-medicine major was named SSAC All-Conference after setting the school record in the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. She also finished in the top three at the conference meet in the 1500m, earning a third all-conference honor. She also owns the school mark for the 800m which at 2:27.83 which was set at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational.
Tortorich was the lone senior on the All-Academic team. The New Orleans native majored in visual arts at Loyola. She was named All-Conference in the 100m, 200m, and 4x400m relay events. She departs Loyola holding the outdoor school records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and 4x400m races.
Vaccaro is a freshman biology major from Yorba Linda, California. She earned SSAC All-Conference honors as part of the 4x800 team which finished in the top three at the SSAC Championships .
Williams, a sophomore from Duxbury, Massachusetts, is majoring in psychology and pre-med. She set a personal best of 2:48.4 in the 800 meters at the Louisiana Classics.
Corso, a sophomore biology/pre-health major, hails from Naples, Florida. He set school records in the 3000m and distance medley races during the indoor season. He posted the second highest Wolf Pack times of the year in the 3000m and 5000m during the outdoor season.
Freese joins the All-Academic team as a sophomore from Metairie, Louisiana. The history major set the school record in the 5000m event at the LSU Relays with a time of 16:08.61. He earned the SSAC Runner of the Week award after he set the record.
Gerbracht is a political science major from Mandeville, Louisiana. The junior set personal bests in the 800m, 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m races during the outdoor season.
Maye is a junior economics major from Andover, Massachussets. He earned SSAC All-Conference honors as he helped set the school record in the 4x400m relay team. He ran the anchor leg as the squad completed the race in 3:24.52. He also set personal bests in the 200m, 400m, and 800m events this season.
