FRANKFORT, Ky. – Loyola University New Orleans senior Amy Sprout was named to the 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete List, as announced by the NAIA office Monday.
In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
Sprout, a psychology and pre-med major, was among the 127 Division I athletes named to the list. This is also her second consecutive year to garner NAIA’s Scholar-Athlete honor. In addition, Sprout was also named to the Southern States Athletic Conference’s All-Academic Team and the Champions of Character Team in 2011 and 2012.
The 5-9 forward finished her senior season starting every game for the past two years. In her four years at LU, Sprout has scored a career 357 points, grabbed 458 rebounds, and has a 55.4 field goal percentage. She scored a career-high 18 points and had nine rebounds against the University of New Orleans earlier this season on Feb. 8. Sprout was also a team captain this season as she lead the Wolfpack to one of its best seasons in school history.
