(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans runner Annie Hills was named the SSAC Runner of the Week for her performance during the week of April 7th. Hills competed with the rest of the Wolf Pack track and field team at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational.
Hills broke a school record in the 1500 meter race as she posted a time of 5:00.40 which placed her third in the race of 16 competitors. Hills topped Stephanie LeGleu’s school record of 5:03.52 which was set in 2000.
Hills also ran the 800 meters and finished second on the Pack. Hills time of 2:29.48 was just behind Loyola’s Denise Powell who had a 2:27.83 time. Powell set her own school record with Hills pushing her throughout the entire race.
This is the first track player of the week award for Hills, however she was named Runner of the Week twice in cross country on September 24th and October 22nd. She also earned All-Conference honors in cross-country as well as Newcomer of the Year.
Hills is the fourth Wolf Pack track athlete to garner player of the week honors this year. She joins Claude Nelson, Sarah Tortorich, and Paul Freese who have won it during the Outdoor Track season.
The Wolf Pack will return to action this coming weekend as they travel to Mobile, Alabama for the USA Invitational on Saturday.
