(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans (3-0) baseball team will look to continue their hot start to the 2013 season when they travel to Tuscaloosa, AL to take on Stillman College (0-0) for a three game series on February 1st and 2nd. The games will be played at Tiger Baseball Field starting at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams will then square off for a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The Tigers will kick off their season with the three game set against the Wolf Pack, while the Wolf Pack enjoyed a three game sweep of Rust College last weekend.
The Wolf Pack won the three games 16-3, 39-0, and 27-0 against an overmatched Bearcat team. Karson Cullins hit two home runs in the third game to complete the sweep. Evan Turkish batted .833 for the series and hit five doubles while knocking in six and scoring seven times. Britt Pellegrin hit a grand slam in the second game and leads the team with nine RBI’s and seven runs.
Freshman Daniel Posway leads the team in strikeouts after punching out seven in his three innings of work in game two of the set. Jeffrey Castille struck out six, but gave up a two run home run in the opening inning of the series.
Stillman and Loyola were scheduled for an early season three game series last year in Tuscaloosa, but the entire set was rained out.
Last season, Stillman went 32-18 overall, and an impressive 21-0 in conference play. The Tigers are a member of the SIAC in the NCAA’s Division II. Paul Winterbottom returns to lead the Tigers after hitting .422 last season with a team high 116 total bases.
