(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans will look to open up their conference slate as they travel to Montgomery to play a three game series against 18th ranked Auburn University Montgomery starting on Friday, February 15. The teams will play at 4 p.m. on Friday before playing a doubleheader on Saturday starting at Noon at The Auburn University Montgomery Baseball Complex.
Loyola (4-9) enters the matchup after having split a doubleheader series with Christian Brothers on Wednesday afternoon. Loyola won the first game in extra innings as Carmelo LoSauro knocked in two RBI’s in the eighth inning to give the Wolf Pack a victory that snapped an eight game losing streak. Kevin Lindsey pitched eight innings while allowing a single run in the Wolf Pack victory. In the second game of the doubleheader Loyola’s rally fell short in the sixth inning and the game was called due to darkness.
AUM (5-4) was voted the preseason #18 team in the country. They have played a tough schedule so far as they split a two game series against top ranked Tennessee Wesleyan. In their most recent game, the Warhawks picked up a 2-1 victory over Shawnee State. Chad Mansmann knocked in the winning run with a double in the third inning, after both teams managed a run in the opening frame.
LoSauro has been on a tear for the Wolf Pack as he has knocked in nine runners in his last five games. He has 12 RBI’s on the season which is tied for second on the team with freshmen John Nicholson and Britt Pellegrin. Karson Cullins has 13 RBI’s and two home runs, both of which are team highs.
Michael Pfister and Jake Weinstock have combined to throw 8 1/3 innings of shutout baseball out of the Wolf Pack bullpen so far this season. Daniel Posway leads the team with 13 strikeouts in his 14 innings of work.
Mansmann leads the Warhawks in RBI’s with six and stolen bases with five. He also has a team high .318 average early in the year. David Carter and Hayden Hiller have each hit one home run for AUM.
Will Ruffin has managed a 0.87 ERA in 10 1/3 innings of work so far this season. He has eight strikeouts and has allowed eight hits to anchor the Warhawks pitching staff.
