NEW ORLEANS, La. – Freshman guard Jasmine Brewer led a trio of Wolfpack players who had over 15 points on Saturday night, as she put up 28 against Spring Hill College.
Keiva Council scored 20 for the Wolfpack (15-8, 4-3 SSAC), while Amy Moody added 15 for the ‘Pack. Sha Sha Buchanan led Spring Hill (8-16, 1-6 SSAC) with 20.
The Badgers pulled out ahead early, going up 9-3 off of a converted three-point play by Sha Sha Buchanan 3:23 into the game. Loyola made a run of its own, bringing the game back within one before the Badgers extended their lead to nine, the greatest margin of the game.
The Wolfpack again brought the game back to within one score, when Bridget Balsam scored a put-back layup with 9:27 to play. Three consecutive field goals by Brewer, Sprout and Brewer again kept the game close heading into halftime, as the Badgers held a 38-34 advantage at the break.
The Badgers built on their lead again early in the second half, going up by eight after four minutes of play. From there, the Wolfpack took control of the game.
Molly Emig hit a trey, and Brewer converted an old-fashioned three-point play to turn a six-point deficit into the first tie since the game began. The ‘Pack took its first lead of the game when Keiva Council hit a pair of free throws with 8:56 to play.
Loyola rarely missed from the field over the last four minutes, turning a three-point lead with 3:46 remaining into a 80-68 win. Over that stretch, Brewer and Moody each scored six points, and Council netted a pair of free throws for the ‘Pack.
The Wolfpack next take the court on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at home against Dillard University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in The Den.
