NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) announced Corey Gray of the Loyola University New Orleans basketball team to the Jesuit Honor Roll for his performance during the week of January 23-29.
The Honor Roll distinction is Corey Gray’s second of the season, previously winning in December for his 23-point triple overtime winning effort against then #21 Xavier. Gray was also named player of the week by the Southern States Athletic Conference, the AJCU, and the Louisiana Sports Writer Association for his offensive execution January 9-15, that included a 33-point triumph over UNO.
Gray’s prolific scoring week helped the ‘Pack to two straight conference wins, defeating William Carey 72-60 on Thursday and then Auburn Montgomery 81-55 on Saturday. The senior guard scored 26 and 21 points respectively, and shot a total of 15-26 from the field, 11-18 from beyond the arc, and 6-6 from the free throw line. Gray reached 20+ points in a game for the seventh and eighth time this season.
Gray currently leads the team in scoring and steals, averaging 17.9 points per game and 2.1 steals per game. The Greenwood, Ind. native is nationally ranked in eight categories in the NAIA, including 12th in three-point field goal percentage (.438), 14th in free-throw percentage (.848), and 27th in total scoring (358)
The Honor Roll receipient and the rest of the Wolfpack squad will be in action this Thursday night against the University of Mobile at 7:30 p.m. inside H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.
