NEW ORLEANS, La. - Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball standout Corey Gray was announced as one of three players named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week for his performance during January 9-15.
The LSWA player of the week panel voted to an unprecedented three-way tie between Corey Gray, Louisiana-Lafayette’s Josh Brown, and Centenary’s Maxx Nakwaasah. This past week, Gray sparked the Wolfpack attack in helping the squad defeat Spring Hill 67-65 on Thursday and UNO 85-79 on Saturday.
The senior guard tallied 23 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the victory over conference foe Spring Hill. He then followed that performance with 33 points (one shy of his career high), three rebounds, seven assists, and two steals against UNO. In that same game, Gray led the team on a 24-7 run in the final seven minutes, scoring 12 points in that span. In the two games, he shot 52.9% from the field, 50% from beyond the arc, and 84.6% from the free throw line.
Gray was recently honored as part of Loyola’s 20th anniversary team over the weekend. On December 2, he became the 24th player in Loyola men’s basketball history to reach 1,000 career points, now sitting in the #17 spot on the all-time career scoring list. In addition this season, Gray was named to the Jesuit Honor Roll for his performance during the week of December 12-18.
