RUSTON, La. – Senior Keiva Council and sophomore Jasmine Brewer were voted All-Louisiana as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Friday afternoon. Council was named to the 1st team while Brewer was named to the 3rd team.
Council, a 5-8 guard from Houston, Texas, had an exceptional senior season leading the Wolfpack in scoring (23.1 ppga), assists (3.5 apg), and steals (2.2 spg). Her 23.1 points per game ranked second in the NAIA and her 669 total points this season ranked fourth. The WBCA All-American and SSAC All-Conference honoree also finished the season breaking Loyola’s single game points record where she scored 48 points against Northwestern State on Nov. 25. She is the only player in Loyola’s history to score 40 or more points twice in one season as she recorded 41 points versus Brewton-Parker on Jan. 6. Council finished her career at Loyola ranking third on the Wolfpack’s career scoring list with 1,844 total points.
Brewer, also a Houston, Texas native, finished her sophomore season ranking fifth in the NAIA in field goal percentage (56.3 percent). The SSAC All-Conference honoree led the ‘Pack in boards as well as double-doubles, recording 216 rebounds (7.4 rpg) and seven double-doubles. She also scored a season-high 26 points twice this season, once against the University of Mobile and the other versus the University of New Orleans.
Council, Brewer, and the rest of the Wolfpack finished the 2011-12 season in grand fashion making it to the NAIA National Championship with an impressive 23-6 overall record. The 79.3 winning percentage marks the second best winning percentage in the program’s history.
