KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Loyola University New Orleans senior Keiva Council was one of 10 selected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Second Team for women’s basketball, the Association announced Wednesday. Her teammate, sophomore Jasmine Brewer, was named Honorable Mention. Council is the second second-team honoree in program history and the first since Trenese Smith in 2007-08. Brewer joins LU’s list of five other NAIA All-American Honorable Mention selections including Council who garnered the honor a year ago.

Council had a banner senior season for Loyola where she led the team in points (23.1 ppg), assist (3.5 apg), and steals (2.2 spg). She is also second in the NAIA in points per game (23.1 ppg) and fourth in total scoring (669). The WBCA All-American also finished the season breaking Loyola’s single game points record where she recorded 48 points against Northwestern State on Nov. 25. She is the only player in Loyola’s history to score 40 or more points twice this season as she recorded 41 points versus Brewton-Parker on Jan. 6. Council now ranks third on the Wolfpack’s career scoring list with 1,844 total points and currently holds the record for an individual season scoring average with her 23.1 points per game.

Brewer finished up her sophomore season ranking fifth in the NAIA in field goal percentage (56.3 percent). She led the Wolfpack in rebounds as well as double-doubles this year, recording 216 rebounds (7.4 rpg) and seven double-doubles. The SSAC All-Conference honoree also scored a season-high 26 points twice this season once against the University of Mobile and the other versus the University of New Orleans.

Council, Brewer, and the rest of the Wolfpack finished the 2011-12 season in grand fashion making it to the NAIA National Championship with an impressive 23-6 overall record. The 79.3 winning percentage marks the second best winning percentage in the program’s history.
