Council Named to the 2011-12 Preseason All-Jesuit Women’s Team; Brewer Named to 2011-12 All-Jesuit Watch List

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Keivia Council, a senior on the Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team, was named to the 2011-12 Preseason All-Jesuit Women’s Basketball team, as announced by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. Council’s teammate, sophomore Jasmine Brewer, was honored to the All-Jesuit Watch List. Council is the only non-NCAA Division I member on the preseason All-Jesuit Team.

Council had a breakout year in her junior campaign, averaging 16.9 points, 6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2 steals per game. She led the Wolfpack in points, steals, assists, blocks and free throw percentage while ranking nationally in five categories. She was only one of two players in the nation to make over 200 free throws, connecting on 201 of her 254 attempts for a 79.1 free throw percentage.

Council also earned Honorable Mentions for both the NAIA Division I All-American Team and the NAIA State Farm Coaches’ All-American Team. She was named to the SSAC All-Academic, All-Louisiana, All-Conference and All-Conference Tournament Teams, and was selected as an NAIA Scholar Athlete and WBCA All-American.

Brewer also had coming out year in her college debut. She led the team in rebounds and double-doubles, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game and five double-doubles on the year. Brewer was also second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points a game.

Brewer garnered the SSAC 6th Man Award and the SSAC Freshman of the Year. She was named to the SSAC All-Conference team and the SSAC All-Freshman Team. The Houston, Texas native was also awarded Louisiana Sports Writers Association Honorable Mention.

The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight pilot project is a nationwide effort to bring greater positive awareness to Jesuit education and mission. This project was developed by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the more than 90 basketball games in which Jesuit institutions play each other (men and women) this year.
