MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Keiva Council had her first career double-double, led the Wolfpack with 16 points, and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, but the Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team fell just short against Auburn-Montgomery, losing 66-63.
The Senators (10-12, 2-3 SSAC) steadily worked their way to a 15-point first half lead, pulling ahead of the Wolfpack (13-8, 2-3 SSAC) 30-15 with 6:15 to play in the first half. During that stretch, Carlie Ainsworth hit five three-pointers, including on three consecutive possessions to close out the run, to lead AUM.
Loyola responded with a surge of its own, going on a 15-2 run to close out the first half, thanks in part to two three-pointers by sophomore guard Molly Emig.
The 'Pack built on its momentum, going on another 15-2 run early in the second half to give LU a 57-42 lead with 8:30 to play. Council and Bridget Balsam hit back-to-back shots from close range to keep the lead at 15.
From there, the Senators took control. Over the final 6:55, AUM went on a 20-2 run, eventually retaking the lead with 24 seconds remaining.
Jackie Padilla (14) and Jasmine Brewer (11) also scored in double figures for the 'Pack. Ainsworth finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Senators.
The Wolfpack will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 3 as they play host to the University of Mobile at The Den. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
