MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team improved to 12-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference play as it defeated Brewton-Parker 80-71. With the win, the ‘Pack continues on its best start in program history.
Senior Keiva Council continues to lead the Wolfpack. She scored a game-high 41 points and nine rebounds. This is the second time this season Council scored 40+ points and the third time in her collegiate career. She is the only player in Loyola history to score more 40+ points in multiple games in a season. The Houston, Texas native shot 50.0 percent from the floor (12-24), 83.3 percent from three (5-6), and 92.3 (12-13) percent from the charity stripe. Council also added two steals, an assist, and a block. Sophomore guard Amy Moody contributed 12 points while sophomore forward Jasmine Brewer had nine.
“It was a very hard fought game for both teams,” said head coach Kellie Kennedy. “It was very physical. Keiva just turned it on, and that is all the leadership we needed.”
The Lady Barons fell to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play with the loss. Senior forward LaToya Foster led Brewton-Parker with 14 points, six rebounds, and an assist. Junior forward Tekera Pinkney followed behind Foster adding 11 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
Loyola has now won five consecutive games as it continues its conference road trip Saturday, January 7 taking on Southern Poly. Tipoff is set for 2:00 CT.
