WESTWEGO, La. – Steve Daigle, Jr. hit his first career home run and gave the Loyola University Wolfpack baseball team the lead over 12th-ranked Belhaven in the fifth inning, but the Blazers’ bats came alive in the late innings and took game three of the series, 6-3.

Ryan Scott and Chris May each had two hits on the afternoon to lead the Wolfpack (7-15, 1-2 SSAC). Daigle had two RBIs from his homer, and Scott added a first-inning RBI. Jimmy Gilford had a 5-for-5 afternoon, as he accounted for all but three of BU’s hits. Gilford also had an RBI and scored twice.

BU (14-5, 2-1 SSAC) got on the board first when Paul Moreno reached base on an error, scoring Tyler Wrinkle. Gilford then went on to score on a Drew Dillard sacrifice fly.

Loyola brought the game back within one in the bottom of the first, as Scott hit a single to shallow right-center, plating Tyler Duplantis from second.

After three scoreless innings, LU took the lead in the fifth off of Daigle’s two-run blast to left field. May had been on base after a leadoff single to right field.

Belhaven went back on top in the top of the seventh. Gilford hit an RBI double to the left field fence. A one-out Moreno groundout scored another run for the Blazers, putting BU ahead, 4-3. BU tacked on two more insurance runs in the ninth, putting the game out of reach for LU.

Taylor Domengeaux took the loss for Loyola, while Belhaven starter Alan McHenry improved to 5-0 on the season.

The ’Pack will be back in action on Tuesday to defend Segnette Field against Blackburn College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
