(New Orleans, La.) Former Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball player Keiva Council recently signed a professional contract with Klaipeda Fortuna of the Lithuanian Women’s Professional Basketball League.
In her career at Loyola, Council was named NAIA All-American, WBCA All-American, National All Jesuit Women’s Team, SSAC All-Conference and All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. The Houston native finished her career with 1,844 points, which is third on the all-time Wolf Pack scoring list. She averaged 23.1 points per game in her career.
Council currently holds Loyola individual season records with a scoring average of 23.1 for the 2011-2012 season and the most points scored in a game record with a 48 points in a game last season against Northwestern State.
Loyola named Council Outstanding Ignatian Senior Woman given annually to select graduating seniors and graduate students for representing Loyola and its commitment to Ignatian values with distinction and honor. She was also named NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, SSAC All-Academic Team, and to the National All-Jesuit Academic Team.
“We’re really proud of Keiva and her accomplishments at Loyola on the court and in the classroom. She has really worked hard to achieve all her goals and playing professionally was at the top of that list. We are fortunate to have had her be a part of our program,” said Loyola head women’s basketball coach Kellie Kennedy.
The Wolf Pack (2-2, 1-1 SSAC) returns to action on Wednesday against Louisiana College in Pineville. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
