Gill surpasses 600 kills as Loyola volleyball rolls past Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior Gina Gill eclipsed the 600-kill plateau for the season, leading the Wolfpack with 19 kills in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-21) victory over Faulkner University in their SSAC finale on Friday night.

Gill, a junior outside hitter from Baton Rouge, La., finished the night with a stellar .472 hitting percentage. Gill’s 618 kills currently ranks second all-time for a single season at Loyola, trailing only Mary Seals’ 2007 mark of 695.

Kailey Tuthill finished with nine kills while Sabrina Stansberry had eight. Samantha Worsham handed out 31 assist and added three aces on the night. Amanda Oldani led with 13 digs while Kaki Johnson had 10.

Loyola (24-13, 6-2) dominated the first set, finishing with 15 kills and only one mishap for a .438 percentage. The ‘Pack used a 5-0 run to double up the Lady Eagles, 14-7, which included three kills by Gill. Loyola continued to maintain control, winning 25-15 after kills by Tuthill and Stansberry.

The Wolfpack hit .306 in the second set to win 25-19 before sealing the match with a 25-21 win in the final game.

Faulkner (13-20, 2-6) was led by Neysa Hernandez with 13 kills and Kelsey Bell had eight.

Loyola wraps up the regular season on Monday, Nov. 8, when they head to The Barn to face Xavier University at 6 p.m.
