NEW ORLEANS, La. - Corey Gray earned his third Jesuit Basketball Spotlight Honor Roll distinction this season, thanks to the 20.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game he averaged during the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.
Gray, a junior guard from Greenwood, Ind., helped lead the Wolfpack men's basketball team to the conference semifinals after beating Brewton-Parker College and Lee University in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The team came up just short against Southern Poly in the semifinals.
Gray previously earned JBS recognition on Jan. 27 after he averaged 31 points per game, shooting 11-for-15 from three-point range and 21-for-26 from the free throw line as LU went 2-0 against conference opponents on the week. He was also named to the Honor Roll on March 3 after averaging 26 points and eight rebounds per game in a pair of conference match-ups.
Gray's season was capped off by being named to the SSAC All-Tournament Team and the SSAC All-Division Team. He averaged 16.8 points per game on the year, and shot 44 percent from three-point range, placing him among the top ten long-range shooters in the nation.
The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight pilot project is a nationwide effort to bring greater positive awareness to Jesuit education and mission. This project was developed by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the more than 90 basketball games in which Jesuit institutions play each other (men and women) this year. You can find more information on the project at http://www.ajcunet.edu/jesuitbasketball.
