BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior Keiva Council was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week, Monday, Dec. 19. This is Council’s third season honor and second from the Association for the Wolfpack this season.
The 5-8 guard from Houston, Texas, had one of her best weeks to date dropping 30 points in Saturday’s 67-64 win over No. 16 Xavier. Council helped her team win its 10th game of the year as Loyola is now 10-1 overall which is its best start in the school’s history. Her 30 points pushed her career total over 1,400 points as she is now ranked No. 5 in Loyola’s all-time scoring list with 1,429 points. She also added nine rebounds, four steals, and an assist.
Council is ranked nationally in the top 50 in the NAIA in an astonishing seven categories: 1st in points per game (23.1), 3rd in total scoring (254), 17th in defensive rebounds per game (6.7), 45th in steals per game (2.5), 46th in total steals (27), 49th in field goal percentage (47.1), and 50th in total assists (38). Her stats continue to push Loyola into ranking in the top 50 in the NAIA in an amazing 19 categories including No. 1 in field goal percentage (49.8).
Loyola is on a break for the holidays but returns to action Monday, Jan. 2 when it hosts cross-town rival University of New Orleans at 2 p.m. CT.
