WASHINGTON D.C. - Loyola University New Orleans senior Keiva Council was named to the Women’s Basketball Jesuit Honor Roll for the week of Dec. 12-Dec. 28, as announced by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities on Wednesday. This is Council’s second honor this week and second honor from the Association as she was named Jesuit Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Nov. 21-Nov. 27.
Council has had a banner senior season for Loyola where she leads the team in points (23.1 ppg), rebounds (8.0 rpg), assists (4.0 apg), and steals (2.5 spg). She is also first in the NAIA in points per game and third in total scoring (254). The Houston, Texas native is also ranked nationally in three additional categories: 17th in defensive rebounds (6.7), 45th in steals per game (2.5), and 48th in field goal percentage (47.1). Council recorded a game-high 30 points against No. 16 Xavier on Saturday, Dec. 17, leading her team to a 67-64 victory. Her 30 points pushed her career point total over 1,400 putting her 5th in Loyola’s all-time scoring list. She also collected nine rebounds and four steals last Saturday.
Council, and the rest of the ‘Pack, are on a hiatus for the holidays but return to action Monday, Jan. 2 against cross-town foe University of New Orleans. Tipoff in The Den is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
