Kentwood Springs Student Athlete of the Week

Mon, 01/19/2015

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball standout Janeicia Neely has been selected as this week’s Kentwood Springs Student Athlete of the Week.

Neely, a senior Guard from Kenner, Louisiana, recorded a career-high 30 points in Loyola’s first loss of the season against conference rival Bethel. She shot an impressive 50% from the field (13-of-26) and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Pack on both sides of the ball. Neely also guided the Pack’s scoring effort on Saturday against SSAC opponent Blue Mountain College, scoring 24 points on 69% shooting. She drained six of her seven three-point field goal attempts, which is a career-high for her. Over the course of the two games, Neely garnered five assists, 12 rebounds and two steals in addition to her 54 points.

She currently places in the top 20 in NAIA Division I in two categories, including points per game (16.875) and field goal percentage (0.505). Neely also ranks in the top 30 in total scoring (270), assists per game (4.125) and total assists (66).

This marks the second time this season that Neely has received the honor of being named Kentwood Springs Student Athlete of the Week.

The Kentwood Springs Student Athlete of the Week is awarded to Loyola student athletes who exemplify Ignatian values through excellence in the classroom, in the community and in competition.
