(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans baseball and women’s basketball teams are the Kentwood Springs Student Athletes of the Week for March 3rd.
The baseball team scored an upset victory over #1 Faulkner University on Friday afternoon. The Pack got down 4-0 with Daniel Posway on the mound, but a sixth inning rally that saw Jack Nicholson plate two players with an RBI single tied up the game and eventually forced extra innings. The Wolf Pack scored the game winning run after Carmelo LoSauro reached base on an error. Alexander Lorenzo pinch ran for him and came home on Peyton Senner’s first career RBI.
The Wolf Pack women’s basketball team clinched the Southern States Athletic Conference West Division with a 77-49 victory over Blue Mountain College on Saturday. The win placed the Pack in a four-way tie with Martin Methodist College, the University of Mobile and Bethel University for first place in the division. Loyola went 4-2 overall versus the teams knotted in the tie during the regular season, and thus earned the division title.
The Wolf Pack will compete in its first game of the 2013-14 SSAC Championship Tournament on Thursday, March 6 at 4:30 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala. against the winner of the Belhaven University versus Emmanuel College contest.
The Kentwood Springs Student Athlete of the Week is awarded to Loyola student athletes who exemplify Ignatian values through excellence in the classroom, in the community and in competition.
