(Lafayette, La.) Loyola University New Orleans sophomore pitcher Kevin Lindsey has been named the Louisiana Sports Writer Association’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28th, 2014.
Lindsey excelled in the Wolf Pack’s final regular season series of the year as he pitched a complete game seven inning shutout. Lindsey surrendered three hits and one walk while striking out four against Emmanuel College. Lindsey earned the win on Friday as Loyola won 1-0 in the series opener. It was the first Loyola shutout since January 28th, 2012 when Matt Ditsworth pitched a seven inning complete game shutout against Central Christian College.
Lindsey made a one inning cameo for the Wolf Pack in their midweek game against UNO. He allowed one hit and one walk while pitching a scoreless first inning against the NCAA Division I school. For the week, he threw eight shutout innings while only giving up four hits.
Lindsey earned his sixth win of the season against Emmanuel College to secure the Wolf Pack’s first winning campaign since 2002. The Baton Rouge native finished the year with a 1.65 ERA in 76.1 innings. That is the lowest ever season ERA for a Wolf Pack pitcher. Jay Diorio previously held the season record with a 2.11 ERA during the 1993 season.
This is the second LSWA Pitcher of the Week performance for a Loyola starter this season. Joel Buhler was named Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 1st after tossing a nine inning complete game with seven strikeouts and eight hits against William Carey.
Leo Vargas from Nicholls State, Connor McMullin of LSU-Shreveport, and Jake Fraley from LSU had a three way tie for the LSWA Hitter of the Week.
