NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) announced their 2011-12 National Jesuit Men’s Basketball Team today. Loyola University New Orleans senior standout Corey Gray was named to the Honorable Mention list. The Indiana native made the cut amongst those student athletes enlisted in the 28 total Jesuit Universities and Colleges in the country.

Gray has been honored by the AJCU a few times throughout the season. He was named AJCU men’s player of the week for his offensive performance during the week of Jan. 9-15. Gray led the team in a Jesuit Basketball Spotlight win over Spring Hill and then followed that up with the ‘Pack’s first ever win over the University of New Orleans, scoring a season high 33 points vs. the Privateers.

Corey also made the Jesuit Honor Roll twice. He achieved his first acknowledgment in December for his 23-point triple overtime winning effort against then #21 Xavier. Then Gray was honored for his performance during the week of Jan. 23-29, in which the senior scored 47 total points in conference wins over William Carey and Auburn Montgomery.

The Honorable Mention list is yet another accolade Corey Gray can add to an impressive senior season. The guard was previously named 2nd team All-Louisiana, NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, and All Southern States Athletic Conference.

Gray averaged 17.7 points, shot 38.8% from the field, 41.9% from three-point range, and 82.1% from the free-throw line. He also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.1 steals.

In addition, he led the team in scoring and steals, was nationally ranked in the NAIA in eight categories, and scored nine 20+ scoring games on the year.

Gray also climbed his way into the Loyola record books. He scored 531 points on the season, which ranks 9th on Loyola’s single season scoring list. Furthermore, Gray finished with 1,387 career points, which ranks ninth on Loyola’s all-time career scoring list.

Finally, Gray helped spearhead the Wolfpack’s first SSAC West Division Title. The Loyola men’s basketball squad achieved their best regular season winning percentage (.679) and their first 20 win season since 1947.
