Fontenot, a physics major, made the list for the third time at Loyola after redshirting last year due to an injury. Domengeaux, who is majoring in business, earned the award in his first eligible year for scholar-athlete honors.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must at least a junior in academic standing and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5.
While succeeding in the the classroom, both players were an integral part in Loyola’s season. Fontenot, from Baton Rouge, La., became Loyola’s all-time leader in steals and saves while leading the ‘Pack this season in ERA, stolen bases, and saves. Domengeaux, a native of Des Allemands, La., started all 49 games for Loyola, notching six wins on the mound and also started 39 games at shortstop.
The Loyola baseball team has now had at least two players make the scholar-athlete list for seven consecutive seasons.
