(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans pitcher Joel Buhler has been named Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Co-Pitcher of the week for his performance on March 29th.
The sophomore lefthander tossed a nine inning complete game against William Carey over the weekend. Buhler earned his third win of the season as the Wolf Pack took the finale over the Crusaders 5-1. Buhler struck out seven and scattered eight hits and three walks.
Buhler worked through early trouble in the game as seven runners reached base in the first three innings, but none crossed the plate. In the third inning, the Crusaders loaded the bases but the Mandeville native recorded two straight strikeouts to end the frame and escape the jam.
This is the first LSWA pitcher of the week award for a Loyola student-athlete this season. The Wolf Pack return to action this weekend as they play Martin Methodist college in a three game set starting with an April 4th doubleheader at 2 p.m.
The LSWA named Louisiana-Lafayette infielder Jace Conrad the hitter of the week. Jonathan Burnett of LSU-Shreveport was named Co-Pitcher of the week along with Buhler after tossing 6.2 innings and fanning a career-high 10 batters in a 4-1 victory over LSU-Alexandria on Saturday.
