(New Orleans, La.) - The Southern States Athletic Conference announced that McCall Tomeny of the Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team was named SSAC player of the week for the week ending February 24.
The sophomore forward from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, recorded 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 1 steal in a 69-72 overtime loss against the Belhaven Blazers on Thursday. Two nights later, he recorded 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, in the 78-79 overtime defeat to the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks. Tomeny shot 50% from the 3-point range and 70% in the field . He went 3-4 in his free throw attempts, shooting at 75%. His averages for the week included 23.5 points, 7 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 2 steals.
This is Tomeny’s first conference player of the week award in his two year career with the ‘Pack.
Tomeny leads the team in rebounds averaging 6.8 rebounds per game, totaling 191 for the regular season. He also averages 14.6 points per game for Loyola.
The Pack will play Coastal Georgia (7-22, 5-13) in the SSAC Conference Tournament on Wednesday in Montgomery, Alabama. Tip off is set for 12:45 p.m. at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex.
