NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Southern States Athletic Conference named Loyola’s Robert Lovaglio SSAC Player of the Week for his performance during the last week of the regular season (Feb. 20-26).
Lovaglio led the Wolfpack to a 2-0 week, defeating William Carey 63-58, and then Mobile 62-55. The victory in The Den over the Rams clinched the ‘Pack’s first SSAC West Division Title in just their second year in conference play.
The sophomore forward recorded 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals against the Crusaders, and followed that up with a 13 point, five rebound performance against the Rams. On the week, Lovaglio shot 52.4% from the field, 1-2 from beyond the arc, and 11-13 from the free throw line. The acknowledgement is Lovaglio’s first conference player of the week mention in his two year career with the ‘Pack.
Lovaglio currently ranks fifth in the conference and 39th in the NAIA in field goal percentage with .514. The Winter Park native is averaging 16.73 points per game and a team leading 7.14 rebounds and 2.41 assists per game.
Lovaglio has scored at least 13 points in each of the last six games. The Wolfpack are on a five game win streak and earned the one seed from the West in the SSAC Tournament. Loyola will play their first tournament game this Thursday at 1 p.m. CST at Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, against the winner of the William Carey vs. Emmanuel contest that will be played on Wednesday.
