(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans freshman tennis player Tarun Surat was named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) men’s tennis honorable mention All-American team.
The NAIA named 16 student-athletes as honorable mentions as well as 16 players to the All-American first and second teams.
Surat, a native of Hydearbad, India, went 13-3 in singles matches and 8-8 in doubles matches this season. He played exclusively at the top singles spot, and partnered with fellow first year Jaron Belcher at the top doubles spot in 15 of the team’s 16 matches.
Surat was named first team All-SSAC and Freshman of the Year in the SSAC. He also earned the NAIA Champions of Character Award.
Surat helped the Wolf Pack secure their first SSAC tournament victory in program history as he and Belcher defeated Ty Smith and Pasha Zenchenko of Emmanuel 9-7. Surat then defeated Smith 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in singles as the Wolf Pack won 5-4. However, Loyola’s next match against top seeded Auburn Montgomery was rained out, and AUM advanced to the conference semifinals.
