WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Trenese Smith of the Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team recently earned honorable mention honors for the 2009-2010 National All-Jesuit Women’s Team as announced by the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.
Smith led the Wolfpack to 19 wins this season while scoring 17.1 points per game. She became Loyola’s all-time leading scorer as a junior and extended the career scoring mark after her senior season to 2,439 points.
Of the 18 players honored by the JBS, Smith was the only non-NCAA player to receive recognition. Smith won several awards this season which included NAIA-American, All-Louisiana, and All-GCAC.
Loyola had two games this season that were featured in the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight, both resulting in victories against long time rival Spring Hill College. The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight is a nationwide effort to capitalize on basketball games between Jesuit schools and, through those games, bring greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission.
