Chicago Ill.- Loyola University New Orleans senior setter Sam Worsham’s homecoming was perfect as the Wolf Pack volleyball team collected four victories on the weekend and the Chicago native earned MVP Honors at the Illinois Tech Tournament.

In the first match of the day, freshman outside hitter Katie Hamilton led the attack with 10 kills in a 25-9, 25-12, 25-16 victory over Purdue Calumet.  The ‘Pack benefitted from superior serving with Worsham collecting five aces and sophomore outside hitter Kara Nishimuta adding four.  Sophomore libero Becca Burnett anchored the back row with 15 digs.

In the closing match of the tourney, freshman outside hitter Eva Allen and junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry collected 21 kills between the pair.  Allen had a team high 11 with Stansberry contributing 10 as Loyola (4-0) downed host Illinois Tech 25-20, 25-18, 25-7 to remain perfect on the season.  Burnett led the defense with 21 digs and Worsham added 16.

“It was great to come home and play in front of friends and family, some of whom had never seen me play.  The MVP award was nice, but the most important thing was that we played well and started the season 4-0. Our success on the weekend was a total team effort,” stated Worsham.

In 12 sets played on the weekend, the Pack was a flawless 12-0. It is the best start to a season since 2009 when Loyola began the year with six consecutive victories.

Freshman middle blocker Kaitlin Mohr and Katie Hamilton also joined Worsham on the All-Tournament team.

“It was a great weekend for Sam who played well in front of the hometown crowd.  She did a nice job on the floor and leading our team.  It’s great to start the year with four wins.  We’ll enjoy it for a little while and start to get ready for another challenging tournament in Houston on Friday,” said Loyola head coach Tommy Harold.

Loyola returns to action on Friday with a weekend tournament at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.  The ‘Pack will face Calumet College of St. Joseph for the second time this season to open the weekend.
