New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Athletics and Wellness will be hosting their Annual Cancer Awareness Game benefiting the Play 4Kay Charity and the Coaches vs. Cancer Program when the Wolfpack basketball teams take on Belhaven on Thursday night in The Den. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men following at 7:30 p.m.

The event was organized by the Athletics and Wellness Student Leadership Council that is comprised of student leaders from each athletic team and student employee staff. T-shirts commemorating the event will be on sale for $10 Monday through Thursday in the Danna Student Center on Loyola’s campus from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Shirts will also be on sale at Thursday’s games.

“We are excited to be a part of such an important cause. Cancer has touched so many people that we hope we can make a positive impact in the fight against this disease,” said women’s basketball player Amy Sprout, who co-chaired the committee with teammate Keiva Council.

Anyone purchasing a t-shirt or making a contribution to the effort will receive a coupon for a free serving of gelato from la Divina Gelateria. There will also be an auction of autographed basketballs from the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The women’s ball will be auctioned during halftime of their game with the men’s auction happening during their half time.

“This is an opportunity for us to come together as a community in the fight against cancer. We want to encourage everyone to come out on Thursday and help us in this worthy cause,” stated Council.

Play 4Kay is a global, unified effort for a nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is the official Play 4Kay charity.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
