WESTWEGO, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad defeated the visiting Blackburn College Beavers 16-1 at Segnette Field Tuesday night. The Wolfpack move to 10-12 on the year as the Beavers drop to 2-4.
The ‘Pack ended an eight game losing streak with an emphatic win over Blackburn that ended after seven innings due to the mercy rule. Loyola has now won five straight against the Beavers.
The Wolfpack had a huge inning in the second, as they tacked on nine runs before the Beavers recorded the first out. Fifteen ‘Pack hitters went to the plate in the frame.
Loyola added one run in the third and then produced another effective inning in the fifth, adding six more runs.
Trey Campeaux (4-1) started tonight for the ‘Pack and earned the victory. He lasted five innings and gave up one earned run on four hits. The senior tossed 85 pitches and recorded four strikeouts.
George Smith replaced Campeaux in the sixth and threw two innings of shut out relief. He struck out three and did not give up a hit.
Brandon Snow, Karson Cullins, Evan Turkish, Harold Toscano, and Garrett Lacour all had productive nights at the plate. Turkish led the team with four hits in five at-bats, while scoring two runs and two RBI’s. Cullins had a team leading three RBI’s and finished 3-5 with two runs scored. In addition, Snow went 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Finally, both Toscano and Lacour finished 2-3 with two RBI’s.
Tim Rhodes (0-2) started for Blackburn and lasted four innings. Rhodes gave up 10 earned runs on 12 hits as he picked up the loss.
The ‘Pack resumes play with the Beavers tomorrow night at Segnette at 6 p.m.
