(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans will put their six game winning streak to the test when they take on Southern University at Lee-Hines Field in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 16th at 6:00 p.m.
The Wolf Pack (15-33) come into the game with two straight series sweeps in conference play. They defeated Southern Wesleyan on the road before finishing off their home schedule with three straight victories over Truett-McConnell. Kevin Lindsey, Jeffrey Castille, and Daniel Posway combined to throw 17.2 innings against Truett without giving up an earned run. Loyola walked off in game two of the series as Britt Pellegrin lofted a single over the second baseman’s head to score Evan Turkish from third base. The Wolf Pack will conclude their season with seven straight road games.
Southern University (13-16) enters Tuesday’s contest having lost five of their last six games. They lost two of three in their most recent series against Texas Southern. Their victory came in the series opener as Jesse Holliday and Josh Powell threw a combined shutout as Southern won 1-0.
Turkish leads the Pack in batting average as he has a .326 average this season. He also leads the squad with a .451 slugging percentage. Philip Cazayoux has the team lead in runs with 36 in the 2013 campaign. Karson Cullins has the most home runs (3), RBI’s (31), steals (13), and total bases (74).
Kevin Lindsey leads the team with four wins and a 3.51 ERA. He has five complete games in 66.2 innings. Daniel Posway has a team best 37 strikeouts. Connor Thurman earned a save and a win over the weekend, Thurman now leads the team with three saves this season.
Derrick Hopkins leads the Jaguars with a .346 average and 27 hits in 2013. Sean Washington has scored a team high 24 runs while Caleb Hatcher has a team best 20 RBI’s. Brian Ortiz is 6 for 6 in stealing bases.
Camilo Godoy has been the midweek starter for Southern as he sports a 7.11 ERA in three starts. He has an 0-2 record, but has struck out 10 in 12.2 innings. Victor Llarranza sports a 1.93 ERA in six appearances out of the bullpen for the Jaguars.
