Loyola baseball completes sweep of Tougaloo
Jackson, Miss.- Loyola University New Orleans baseball team completed a series sweep of Touglaoo taking both games of a double header Saturday at the Coleman Sports Complex on Tougaloo’s campus.
In the first game, the Wolfpack scored in every inning, including eight runs in the top of the first for the 17-2 victory.
Loyola had 14 hits in the game with Tyler Duplantis leading the charge going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and four RBI. Kevin Fontenot, David McChesney, Taylor Domengeaux and Bradley Brunet each had two hits.
Mike Kelly (3-3) picked up the complete game victory for Loyola. He gave up two runs on three hits and struck out two. The game was called after five innings due to the 10 run rule.
For Tougaloo, Michael Spann was tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs. He went 2.2 innings and gave up 14 runs on 12 hits. Derrick Singleton accounted for Tougaloo’s only runs with a two run home run in the fourth.
In the second game, the Wolfpack pounded out 18 hits in a seven inning 19-2 victory to complete the series sweep.
Taylor Domengeaux (4-1) went six innings and gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out five for the win. Joey Pajares threw a perfect seventh to close the game out.
Brooks McMinn, McChesney, and Bradley Brunet each had three hits. Chris May hit his first career home run in the top of the seventh.
Matthew Scott (1-8) gave up 11 runs on 13 hits and walked five for the loss. Spann was 3 for 3 with a RBI to lead the Bulldogs (2-36, 1-22 GCAC).
Loyola returns to action on Tuesday against Southern University. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
