Loyola baseball concludes conference slate at Spring Hill

Kevin Lindsey will open the series against Spring Hill on Friday night

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team will head to Mobile, Alabama as they close their SSAC schedule against Jesuit rival Spring Hill College in a three game set slated to start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19th. The two teams will then play a doubleheader on Saturday scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The Wolf Pack (15-34, 8-19) enter the three game series having won six of their last seven games. The Pack lost their most recent game 8-2, a non-conference affair against Southern University. Prior to that, Loyola was on their longest winning streak of the season as they won six straight conference games over Southern Wesleyan and Truett-McConnell.

Spring Hill (17-27, 7-17) is 3-3 over their last six games having defeated Tougaloo College in a midweek doubleheader the last time they took the field. Prior to that, the Badgers lost two of three to Belhaven and a single game to West Florida. The victory over Belhaven was a 5-4 decision in a seven inning contest.

Evan Turkish leads the Wolf Pack offense with a .327 average and 16 doubles. Teammate Karson Cullins leads Loyola with three home runs and 32 RBI’s. Carmelo LoSauro also has knocked in 32 runners while Philip Cazayoux has crossed the plate 36 times.

Kevin Lindsey will take the mound for Loyola on Friday night. The freshman has earned four victories and five complete games while posting a 3.51 ERA in 10 starts this season. Jeffrey Castille and Daniel Posway will get the starts in Saturday’s doubleheader. Posway leads the team in strikeouts with 37 in 58.1 innings this season.

Ryan Stevens is one of three Badgers batting above .300 as he sports a .342 average for the season while also leading the team with 28 RBI’s and four home runs. Brian Sims has a .331 average as he leads Spring Hill with 56 hits and 28 runs. Willie Floros rounds out the group with a .309 average for the season.

Nick Schmiemeier has 10 starts for Spring Hill, he has thrown two complete games and has an ERA of 3.25 to lead the staff. Schmiemeier has 38 strikeouts in 55.1 innings this season. Casey Adams also has 10 starts this season as he has a 1-4 record and a 4.47 ERA.
