Westwego, La.- Judson University took two games of a
doubleheader against Loyola University New Orleans Saturday
at Segnette Field. The Eagles won game one 6-4 and captured
the nightcap 8-2.
In the first game, Ben Palmer (1-0) threw five shutout
innings, striking out three and surrendering four hits in
the victory for the Eagles.
Judson got on the board in the top of the first inning, when
Giovanni Cantwell drew a walk off Wolfpack starter George
Smith with the bases loaded. The game remained a 1-0 affair
until the top of the sixth when the Eagles pushed five runs
across. Six Eagle hitters reached base before Loyola
recorded an out with three walks, two hits and a Wolfpack
error that plated two Judson runs.
Loyola capitalized in the bottom of the frame off three hit
batsmen, two bases on balls and a run scoring single by
Garrett Lacour to make the score 6-4.
The Eagles Kevin Carmody earned his first save of the season
as he retired the Wolfpack in order in the bottom of the
last to secure the win.
Smith (1-1) was tagged with the loss. He went five plus
innings and gave up three runs on two hits, walked seven and
struck out a career high six. Lacour led at the plate going
2 for 2 with a RBI.
In the second game, Judson scored in all but two innings en
route to an 8-2 victory for the doubleheader sweep.
Reliever Joe Huenecke (1-0) pitched three scoreless,
striking out five for the win.
Joe Young and Brian Brauer each had two hits for the Eagles
(2-0). Starter Nick Krisman gave up two runs on only one
hit, but gave the Wolfpack six free passes with three walks
and three hit batsmen.
Wolfpack starter Logan Peterson (0-1) gave up six runs, five
earned on six hits and struck out one.
The series concludes with a doubleheader on Sunday at
Segnette Field. Game one is slated for 11 a.m.
