WESTWEGO, La. - The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team could not overcome Shorter Friday night, losing 11-3 at Segnette Field. The Wolfpack fall to 9-6, 1-3 in SSAC play, while the Hawks jump to 11-5, 2-2 in conference competition.
Shorter struck early and often, recording runs in six of the nine-inning game. Loyola starting pitcher George Smith (1-3) surrendered seven runs, five earned, over 3.1 innings.
Chad Guidry broke up Stephen Adkins no hit bid in the fifth with a leadoff single. Bradley Brunet then broke the shutout with a RBI double to deep left center field, scoring Guidry.
Loyola tacked on another run in the sixth when Brien Delahoussaye scored Brandon Snow, who previously doubled down the right field line.
In the bottom of the ninth, Brian Reaney produced a two out double to deep left field. Then Lucas Wendt singled to right center, scoring Reaney, and giving Loyola their third and final run of the game.
Guidry finished 2-4 with one run scored. Wendt also recorded two hits in four at-bats with one RBI. Furthermore, Brunet went 1-2 with one RBI.
Michael Pfister, Jared Belmonte, and Justin Romaire saw action on the pitching mound for the Wolfpack today. Pfister lasted 1.2 innings as he gave up two earned runs on two hits. Belmonte followed with a three inning, five hit, two earned run performance, Finally, Romaire pitched a no hit ninth inning.
Dadynoel Lorenzo and Blake McCullers led the Shorter Hawks this evening. Lorenzo finished 3-6 with two runs scored as McCullers went 4-5 with four RBI’s.
The Wolfpack and Hawks resume play tomorrow with a double-header starting at 1 p.m.
