WESTWEGO, La. - The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team dropped their doubleheader on Wednesday at Segnette Field against LSU-Alexandria, losing the first game 9-3 and fell 3-0 in the night cap.
In game one, LSU-Alexandria (13-39) broke a 3-3 tie in fourth with four runs as they went on to take the first game. The Generals took advantage of two walks and an error in the fourth to take the lead, then James Howell crushed a three-run home run to center field to cap off the inning.
Despite the six run margin, Loyola (15-25) out hit the Generals 11-9. Kevin Fontenot, David McChesney, and Tyler Duplantis had two hits each.
Joey Pajares (1-3) took the loss, giving up four earned on four hits in three innings while striking out five.
Barrett Hernandez (1-4) picked up the win in five innings of work. He gave up three runs on nine hits and fanned four.
LSUA struck first, scoring two in the second on a single from Logan Lasseigne. The Wolfpack got one back in their half of the frame on an RBI double from Bradley Brunet to make the score 2-1.
After a run scoring single by Tid Hilger in the third gave the Generals a 3-1 lead, Tyler Duplantis tied the game for the Wolfpack with a two-run shot over the leftcenter wall, his second of the season.
Following LSUA’s four-run fourth, the Generals added a run in the fifth on a solo homer from Adam Tucker and one more in the sixth off a Loyola error.
In the second game, Robert Ormsbee held the Wolfpack to four hits on his way to a complete game shutout. At the plate for the Generals, Howell brought in the first run on a single in the third, then James Morgan added a pair in the seventh with a double to rightcenter.
The Wolfpack managed to have at least one runner in each inning, but Ormsbee (2-7) was able to do enough to keep the ‘Pack off the board. He finished with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Carl Labit (2-6) suffered the loss, giving up just one run in five innings. He gave up seven hits and struck out three.
On offense for Loyola, Duplantis and Fontenot both had a single while Brooks McMinn and Caleb Templet each finished with a double.
Howell and Lasseigne led the General offense with three hits each. Tucker added a pair of hits to round out the leaders. LSUA finished with 12 hits for the game.
Loyola wraps up the season this weekend with a three-game series against #11 Belhaven University at Segnette Field. Friday’s doubleheader will start at 4 P.M. with Saturday’s game set to start at 1 P.M.
