NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans head baseball coach Gerald Cassard welcomed his 2012 squad today at Segnette Field for the first practice of the season and announced the team’s schedule for the upcoming year.
In their second season in the Southern States Athletic Conference, the ‘Pack host 26 games at Segnette Field this spring, including their four game series season opener January 27-28 against Central Christian. Loyola then concludes the home stand February 1 vs. Tougaloo in a double-header.
Wolfpack fans can also look forward to 32 games against conference opponents in 2012, starting on the road February 7 against the University of Mobile. February will also see the ‘Pack travel to Jackson, Miss. for a three game set against Belhaven Feb. 17-18.
Loyola follows the Blazers series with a nine game home stand, their longest of the season, starting Feb. 24 with three games against Shorter. Then the ‘Pack host Southern University Baton Rouge on the 28th, William Carey March 2-3, and finally Blackburn on March 6-7. Loyola does not return home until March 23 when they welcome SSAC foe Auburn Montgomery for a three game series.
The action in April starts on the road on the 3rd when the ‘Pack travel to Baton Rouge for a game against Southern University. Loyola then returns home for a three game stand with Spring Hill April 6-7. The Wolfpack conclude the regular season schedule at home with a game against LSU-Alexandria on the 18th followed by a three game series vs. Southern Poly State April 20-21. The SSAC Tournament begins April 26 in Columbus, Georgia.
“The Loyola baseball program is definitely excited for the start of a new year to finally get underway. The 2012 season will undoubtedly challenge this current squad of players. The Southern States Athletic Conference is the premier league in the NAIA, and we look forward to overcoming the obstacles placed before us,” stated Cassard.
