WESTWEGO, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team dropped the Senior Day season finale to Southern Poly 13-1 at Segnette Field.
Wolfpack head coach Gerald Cassard started seniors Slade Sanders, Chad Guidry, Brien Delahoussaye, and Lucas Wendt in honor of the final game of the 2012 season.
Senior Trey Campeaux (4-3) started on the mound for the final time. Campeaux lasted three innings and surrendered eight runs on nine hits. Campeaux walked one and struck out two as he picked up the loss.
The Wolfpack got their lone run in the bottom of the second. After a dropped third strike allowed Harold Toscano to reach first, catcher Bradley Brunet singled to right, advancing Toscano to third. The ‘Pack then got on the board when Wendt hit a RBI groundout to first.
George Smith, the final senior to check into the game, replaced Campeaux in the fourth inning. Smith finished with five earned runs on four hits over 2.2 innings. Smith walked four and struck out three. Finally, Jeffrey Castille pitched the remaining 1.1 innings as he did not allow a hit or run.
Slade Sanders led the Wolfpack with two hits in four at-bats. Lucas Wendt finished 1-3 with one RBI, and Harold Toscano went 1-3 with a run scored.
David Gibson (4-4) earned the victory after pitching six innings of one run baseball. Gibson allowed eight hits and struck out five. Charlie Boring and Jeremy Boyd led the offense for Southern Poly. Boring went 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI’s while Boyd finished 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI’s.
The Hornets record moves to 33-21 overall and 17-13 in SSAC play. The Wolfpack conclude their season with a 18-33 overall record and 3-27 in conference competition.
