NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team (9-9, 1-5 SSAC) will host William Carey (9-7, 3-2 SSAC) in a three game set this weekend at Segnette Field. The Wolfpack and Crusaders will play a single game Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a double-header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
The Wolfpack return after losing 7-17 to the visiting Southern University Baton Rouge Jaguars on Tuesday.
Karson Cullins had a productive night, going 2-4 with two RBI’s. Both Evan Turkish and Anthony Asta went 2-5 with one run scored each, with Turkish adding a RBI.
In addition, freshman Nevin Brown recorded his first career homer with a pinch-hit three run home run to deep left field in the ninth inning. Brown is 2-2 in pinch-hit situations, and along with Philip Cazayoux, leads the team with 13 runs scored.
The ‘Pack look to halt their current five game skid and extend their winning 6-4 home record at Segnette Field this weekend.
Last season, the Wolfpack traveled to Hattiesburg to take on the Crusaders and won one game of the three game set. In the 11-6 victory, first baseman Evan Turkish went 2-3 with two runs scored. Furthermore, Cullins too scored a run on a 2-4 day at the plate.
The ‘Pack can achieve their first home series win against the William Carey Crusaders since the squad took two out of the three in 2005.
William Carey is 5-4 on the road this season. They return after taking two of three against Southern Poly last weekend, and then sweeping Tougaloo in a double-header on Tuesday.
The Crusaders are led by senior Ernie Triplett and junior Mitch Bohon. Triplett leads the team with 15 hits, accumulating a .341 batting average. Bohon leads the team with 17 RBI’s and four extra base hits on the year.
