Loyola Baseball Looks to Take Season Series vs. LSU-Alexandria Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad (16-30) looks to carry their momentum into Wednesday’s doubleheader against LSU-Alexandria (11-24). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Segnette Field.

The Wolfpack finished last week’s play 4-1. Loyola swept Tougaloo College in a doubleheader on Tuesday and then took two out of three games vs. Southern Wesleyan, in which both wins were decided in the tenth inning.

Anthony Asta led the offense in the recent surge with a 7-20 week, as he recorded 4 RBI’s and five runs scored. Brandon Snow finished 6-18 with 7 runs scored and six RBI’s. In addition, Chad Guidry went 7-14 with four RBI’s and a run scored, and catcher Bradley Brunet went 5-8 in the Southern Wesleyan series, as he collected six RBI’s and two runs scored.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Castille highlighted the week on the mound. The junior achieved two wins, moving his record to 4-1. Castille threw a combined nine innings pitched, as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits, striking out seven.

The Wolfpack would have to sweep LSU-Alexandria to take the season series after splitting a doubleheader at Generals Field on March 28. The ‘Pack took game one 5-4 before they dropped game two 6-5.

Anthony Asta and Karson Cullins led the ‘Pack in hitting with a 5-7 and 5-8 day respectively. Asta crossed the plate twice and collected a RBI, while Cullins recorded one RBI and three runs scored.

Last season at Segnette Field, the ‘Pack swept the Generals in the doubleheader, winning 10-0 and 9-1.

LSU-A is coming off of a two game sweep by LSU Shreveport on April 10. Cullen Vujnovich and Tid Hilger lead the Generals at the plate. Vujnovich is batting a team high .371 while Hilger has a team best 28 total RBI’s. Finally, Devin Evans leads the Generals pitching rotation with a 5.05 ERA.

Tickets for the general public are $6. Senior citizens and children between the ages of 12-18 are $3, while children under the age of 12 are free. There will also be $1 hot dogs at the concession stand.
