Loyola baseball opens SSAC slate against Mobile

Kevin Lindsey and the Pack open SSAC play against Mobile

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team will open conference play this weekend with a three game series against the University of Mobile. The teams will open the series with a Friday, February 14th contest at 4 p.m. The series will continue with a doubleheader on Saturday, February 15th with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Pack (4-2) comes into the set riding a four game winning streak. They defeated Stillman College 9-6 in the finale of that series before sweeping a tripleheader against Huston-Tillotson this past weekend. The Pack won 6-2, 21-2, and 6-2 in the series against HTU. The Wolf Pack starting trio of Kevin Lindsey (1-1), Daniel Posway (1-0), and Joel Buhler (1-1) combined to throw 14 innings without allowing an earned run in the sweep as each collected a win. Conor Thurman (1-0) collected his first save of the season in the opener against Huston-Tillotson after earning the win in the finale against Stillman.

The Pack offense has been propelled by Jack Nicholson’s .474 batting average. The junior has tallied a team best nine hits, three doubles, and seven RBI’s. Brandon Snow leads the team with seven runs and two steals while Britt Pellegrin has the only home run for the Pack so far this season.

Mobile (6-3) comes in having lost two of three to Talladega this past weekend. Jeff Price (1-0) fronts the Rams staff with a 1.98 ERA in three appearances. He has 14 strikeouts in 13.2 innings so far this season. Tucker Ward (1-0) got the only win for Mobile against Talladega as he pitched seven innings only allowing three hits and one unearned run.

Tayler Hardy leads the Rams with 14 hits, seven steals, and a .483 average. Neil Hudson tops the squad with 12 RBI’s and 11 runs with four doubles and two triples. Dakota Spikes is the only Ram to hit a home run so far this season.

The Pack and Rams have faced off 121 times in the “new era” of Loyola athletics and the Rams hold a 92-29 edge. That includes a 5-0 record against Loyola during the 2013 season.
