(New Orleans, La.) After getting rained out on the weekend, Loyola University New Orleans will carry their five game winning streak into a matchup against the University of New Orleans. The contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. at UNO’s Maestri Field.
Kevin Lindsey (5-6) will get the start for Loyola. He has a 1.84 ERA in 68.1 innings this season. Lindsey ranks 38th in the NAIA in ERA while surrendering eight walks all season. He ranks 12th in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.05. He will be backed up by a host of Wolf Pack pitchers on Wednesday. The team is sporting a 3.51 ERA for the season in 359 innings.
Karson Cullins leads all Wolf Pack hitters with a .326 average and 27 RBI’s. The senior has 51 total bases and has been hitting .486 over his last nine games. Brandon Snow leads the team with 34 runs and 13 stolen bases. He is tied with Jack Nicholson for the team lead in total bases at 52 and doubles with eight. Philip Cazayoux is batting .324 with 18 walks in the leadoff spot.
Alex Smith (1-6) will earn the start for the Privateers. Smith has a 4.98 ERA on the season in 56 innings. He has allowed 75 hits, 22 walks, and 31 earned runs against 27 strikeouts. Smith has made 10 starts and 13 appearances in 2013. UNO has a team ERA of 4.53 this year in 324 innings.
Samuel Capielano leads the Privateers hitting .338 for the year with 20 runs. Hezekiah Randolph has four home runs and a team best 27 RBI’s. He is hitting .295 with 59 total bases. Chaz Boyer leads the Privateers with 5 steals in 7 attempts.
Loyola’s last game was an 8-7 victory over Southern University on April 15th. Carmelo LoSauro had three RBI’s including a walk off single down the right field line which plated Snow. Loyola took the lead in the seventh as five runs crossed the plate. However, Jaguars tied the game in the eighth and the ninth innings. Snow and Cullins combined for four hits, four runs, and three RBI’s in the Wolf Pack win.
UNO enters the matchup with Loyola on a six game losing streak. They dropped a three game series to Lamar University before losing a three game set against Southeastern this past weekend. UNO fell 10-3, 2-1, and 5-3 in the three games against Southeastern. Smith pitched the first game of the series and gave up seven hits, four walks, and eight earned runs in 4.1 innings as he took the loss.
Loyola is 0-4 all-time against UNO in the “new era” of Wolf Pack athletics. The last game between the two schools was a 9-6 UNO victory in the 2007 season. This will be the third Loyola contest against a NCAA Division I opponent this year. Loyola defeated Southern 8-7 last week, but fell 7-0 to Nicholls State University earlier this season. Wednesday’s matchup will be the final midweek regular season contest of the year for the Wolf Pack.
