Loyola baseball prepares for Tougaloo

Brandon Snow and the Pack will play Tougaloo on Tuesday

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball team will return to Jackson, Mississippi for a midweek doubleheader against Tougaloo College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25th.

Two freshmen are expected to take the mound for the Wolf Pack (16-16) as they match up with the Bulldogs (6-18-1). Caleb Bohan (1-0) will earn a start as he holds a 1.93 ERA so far this year in 18.2 innings of work. He has allowed only four earned runs on 17 hits and seven walks while recording 12 strikeouts. Stewart Campbell (2-3) has a 2.55 ERA in 24.2 innings this campaign. He has 10 punchouts while giving up six walks, 19 hits , and seven earned runs.

Jack Nicholson leads the Wolf Pack offense with 30 hits, 15 walks, and 37 total bases. He is second on the squad with 10 RBI’s and 18 runs. Brandon Snow leads the team in those categories as he has knocked in 11 and scored 19 times. Andrew Fournet has a .350 average and a team high seven steals this year. Philip Cazayoux has a .328 average with 13 runs and 11 walks.

Rodney Mckay (2-3) leads the Bulldogs pitching staff with a 2.33 ERA in 38.2 innings. He has 32 strikeouts and has given up 30 hits and 12 walks in six starts this year. John Alford (1-5) has allowed 27 earned runs and 52 hits in 37.2 innings. He has two complete games in seven starts but has an ERA of 6.45.

Tougaloo’s hitting is paced by Dustin Porter who has a .357 average and 15 steals this year. He has scored a team high 16 runs on 25 hits. Joshua Swords leads the team with 15 RBI’s while Enmanuel Frias has three home runs, 13 RBI’s, and a team best 39 total bases.

Loyola returns to Jackson after a three game SSAC series at Belhaven University. Loyola fell 14-0 in the first game of the series, before losing 5-0 and 8-2 in a Saturday doubleheader. Nicholson recorded three hits on the weekend, including his team leading seventh double of the year. The Pack pulled within one in the fourth inning of the final game as Nevin Brown and Nicholson scored. Peyton Senner and Daniel Pappas picked up the Pack RBI’s, but Belhaven pulled away with a four run seventh inning.

Tougaloo enters the matchup on a 12 game winless streak. They have lost 11 of those games and had a 5-5 tie against Ashford on March 4th. Since then Tougaloo has fallen in a two game set to William Carey and a four game series against Talladega. Last week, Tougaloo lost a 3-2 decision to Belhaven and a 2-1 game to Jackson State.

Loyola is 28-1 all-time against Tougaloo. The Bulldogs lone win came in 2010, and the Wolf Pack have won nine straight in the series since then. The teams last played in 2012 with two doubleheader games. Loyola took the first doubleheader 21-2 and 6-1. Loyola won 6-0 and 6-5 in the return set of games.
