NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad (12-26, 1-20 SSAC) returns home to Segnette Field for a three game set against the visiting Spring Hill Badgers (15-21, 6-15 SSAC). The Wolfpack will play a single game Friday at 6 p.m., and a double header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
The ‘Pack look to halt a five game skid after dropping a 9-5 game in Baton Rouge against Southern University. Loyola is 8-10 at home this season.
Karson Cullins has emerged as the team’s offensive leader. The sophomore is batting .289 with 19 total RBI’s. Cullins is 4-8 with one run scored and two RBI’s in the past two games. Furthermore, Karson has a team high five doubles on the year.
Defensively, Brandon Snow has played exceptionally well in the field with a .959 fielding percentage. Snow has recorded 63 putouts and turned 21 double plays.
The Wolfpack are 44-69 lifetime against the Badgers, with the rivalry starting in the 1991 reinstatement season.
Last season, the ‘Pack traveled to Mobile and were swept by the Badgers in a three game set. However, in 2010, Loyola finished the season series with Spring Hill with two straight wins.
Spring Hill is coming off of a 2-1 series loss against William Carey University. The Badgers are 5-9 on the road this year and have not won a road series since a two game sweep at Tougaloo on February 28.
Brian Sims and Ryan Cummings lead the Badgers at the plate. Sims has posted a .345 batting average on the season while Cummings has recorded 22 total RBI’s. On the mound, Casey Adams has a team best 3.24 ERA and Nick Schmiemeier averages 7.58 strikeouts per game.
