(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball team will play a home doubleheader on Monday, March 31st against Dallas Christian College. The contest at Segnette field is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
Loyola (18-19) will send Connor Thuman and Stewart Campbell to the mound for the doubleheader. Campbell boasts a 2.73 ERA in 29.2 innings this year. The freshman has five starts and a 3-3 record. He has issued only eight walks and allowed nine runs while striking out 13. Thurman has a 7.01 ERA and a 2-0 record. The junior has six saves for the season. He has pitched 25.2 innings and has 14 strikeouts and seven walks.
The Loyola hitters are led by Philip Cazayoux’s .329 average and .478 on-base percentage. Jack Nicholson has a .325 mark and leads the team with 24 runs. Karson Cullins fronts the team in RBI’s as he has tallied 17. Brandon Snow has 22 runs, 13 RBI’s, and is tied for the team lead in steals with seven.
Dallas Christian College (21-17) enters on a three game winning streak after sweeping Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College in a three game set. The Crusaders won game one 4-2 on Friday before taking Saturday’s doubleheader 11-3 and 12-3.
Loyola is coming off a victory in the final game of a three game set against William Carey. William Carey took game one 9-3 and game two 2-0. However, Loyola responded by winning the finale 5-1. Joel Buhler pitched a complete while only allowing eight hits and one run. Nicholson scored twice on two hits while Cullins knocked in two on a seventh inning single with the bases loaded.
Loyola and Dallas Christian have never played before Monday’s doubleheader.
