Loyola baseball splits pair with William Carey

Hattiesburg, Miss- Loyola University New Orleans baseball team split a double header dropping the first game 5-0, but winning the second game 11-6 against William Carey University Saturday afternoon at Milton Wheeler Field.

Loyola (10-21, 2-4 SSAC) averted the series sweep by taking the final game of the three game set. Taylor Domengeaux got the win for the Wolfpack as the senior right hander threw 7.1 innings, giving up five runs, four earned and walked two. Carl Labit closed out the victory for Loyola. He surrendered one run on three hits before retiring the final five outs.

Evan Turkish and Karson Cullins each had two hits. Ryan Scott drove in two runs and Greg Bellelo scored two runs to lead the Wolfpack offense.

Taylor Martin took the loss for Carey (14-10, 2-1 SSAC). He gave up six runs, including five in the second inning. Martin walked three and struck out two. Daniel Covert and Michael Lindsey had two hits in the game for WCU.

In the opening tilt, Carey scored all their runs in the first three innings en route to a 5-0 win over the Wolfpack.

Scotty Reese threw a complete game shutout striking out five and giving up only three hits. Quin Stokes delivered a two run home run to lead the Carey offensive attack.

George Smith was tagged with the loss. He went six innings, giving up five runs, four earned on five hits and struck out two.

Loyola returns to action next weekend for a three game series against Lee University. First pitch on Friday night is slated for 6 p.m. Saturday’s double header is set for 1 p.m. All games will be played at Segnette Field.
