WESTWEGO, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad fell to the visiting #13 Auburn Montgomery Warhawks 1-6 Friday night at Segnette Field.
The Warhawks drew first blood in the top of the first. AUM’s Rusty Todd led off with a walk followed by a sacrifice bunt by Jorden Johnson. Then, Hunter Cross singled to center, scoring Todd on second base.
A pitcher’s duel emerged for the first half of the game as Loyola’s Matt Ditsworth (2-5) battled against Cody Hall (5-1). However, the Warhawks struck again with two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth as they took a 6-0 lead.
The Wolfpack scored their lone run in the eighth inning. Cazayoux led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a ground ball out by Karson Cullins. Then, Evan Turkish produced a single through the hole at short, advancing the runner once again to third. Next, Anthony Asta hit a dribbler to short, resulting in error by McCann as he threw the ball over the first baseman’s head, scoring Cazayoux.
Ditsworth picked up the loss after going seven complete innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits. Ditsworth walked four and struck out six. Jeffery Castille relieved Matt in the eighth and went the final two innings, surrendering just one hit.
Cazayoux finished 2-3 with one run scored, while Evan Turkish went 2-2. In addition, catcher Bradley Brunet secured one hit in three at-bats.
Cody Hall picked up the win after he held the Wolfpack scoreless for seven innings. Hall allowed four hits, walked five, and struck out nine.
AUM’s Hunter Cross and Logan Remson recorded two RBI’s each. Cross went 2-4 and Remson finished 2-5.
The Wolfpack drop to 11-19 overall, 1-15 in SSAC play, while the Warhawks advance to 21-14 and 11-5 in conference play. Loyola and Auburn Montgomery resume play tomorrow in a double-header starting at 1 p.m. at Segnette Field.
